400 IndiGo passengers stranded in Istanbul, no support

Approximately 400 IndiGo passengers travelling between New Delhi, Mumbai, and Turkey have reportedly been stranded at Istanbul Airport for 24 hours.

News Arena Network - New Delhi - UPDATED: December 13, 2024, 12:53 PM - 2 min read

Passengers hit out at the airline's "blatant failure of basic customer service".

Around 400 IndiGo passengers, travelling between New Delhi, Mumbai, and Turkey, were reportedly stranded at Istanbul Airport for 24 hours due to flight delays and cancellations.

The airline cited operational reasons for the delay in response to a passenger inquiry, but frustrated travelers took to social media to share their experiences.

One passenger, Anushri Bhansali, reported that the flight was initially delayed twice, each time by an hour, then canceled and rescheduled 12 hours later. She shared her frustration about being left stranded without accommodations, meal vouchers, or assistance from IndiGo representatives, adding that the ordeal left her exhausted and unwell.

Another traveller, Rohan Raja, described the challenges faced by passengers when a 6:40 am flight from Delhi was cancelled. He said people struggled in cold weather as no transport was provided to reach accommodations that were allegedly arranged by the airline.

Parshwa Mehta, who was travelling to Mumbai, shared that his 8:15 pm flight was delayed to 11 pm and then further postponed to 10 am the next day. He highlighted the lack of communication from IndiGo, noting that updates were provided by Turkish Airlines staff instead.

Mehta also criticised the airline’s handling of compensation. Passengers were promised lounge access at Istanbul Airport, but the lounge was too small to accommodate everyone. Many passengers were left standing for hours without adequate facilities, alternative flight options, or clear communication about reparations.

Calling the situation a “blatant failure of basic customer service,” Mehta demanded an apology and fair compensation for all affected passengers.

This incident follows a recent report by AirHelp Score 2024, which ranked IndiGo among the world’s worst airlines, placing it 103rd out of 109 airlines analyzed. In comparison, Air India was ranked 61st, and AirAsia was placed at 94th.
