Five Al Jazeera journalists, covering the ongoing war in Gaza, including two correspondents and three cameramen, were killed in Gaza City on Sunday. The Israeli military also admitted to killing Anas al-Sharif, the reporter it labelled a "terrorist" affiliated with Hamas.

According to media watchdogs, journalists have been brazenly targeted by Israeli forces under the guise of being Hamas operatives.
So far, more than 200 journalists and media workers have been killed in the ongoing Israeli invasion of Gaza.
All five journalists were targeted while they were in their tent in Gaza City. “28-year-old Al Sharif, who covered the Gaza invasion, was killed outside a Gaza hospital on Sunday,” the media outlet reported.

It also said the five journalists killed were identified as Anas Al Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh, along with camera operators Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa.
While confirming the killings, the Israeli military said, "A short while ago, in Gaza City, the IDF struck the terrorist Anas Al-Sharif, who posed as a journalist for the Al Jazeera network."
The attack followed an online propaganda campaign by the Israeli military’s Arabic spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, who called Al Sharif a member of Hamas.
Following the latest attack, the CPJ said it was "appalled" to learn of the journalists' deaths.
This is not the first time Israel has targeted and killed journalists in Gaza; several media correspondents have been targeted under the false and fabricated pretext that they were members of Hamas, allegations Israel has never been able to prove.
"Israel's pattern of labelling journalists as militants without providing credible evidence raises serious questions about its intent and respect for press freedom," said CPJ Regional Director Sara Qudah.
