60 killed in IDF's Gaza airstrikes as ceasefire breaks

Israeli airstrikes on Gaza killed at least 60 people on Monday, as US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed forcibly relocating Palestinians. UN agencies urged the immediate renewal of the ceasefire, citing grave civilian casualties and large-scale displacement.

At least 60 people were killed in an Israeli air assault on Gaza in the early hours of Monday, with renewed hostilities displacing around 400,000 since the end of the first phase of the ceasefire on 18 March.

Israeli forces have re-entered the besieged enclave, resuming their military campaign to eliminate what they claim are remaining fighters in the territory.

Reports from within Gaza, however, indicate the victims are overwhelmingly civilians, including women and children, as air raids continue across densely populated areas.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met at the White House and held discussions on identifying countries “amenable” to receiving Palestinians displaced from Gaza.

The meeting comes amid international alarm at the humanitarian toll of the conflict. The heads of six United Nations agencies have jointly appealed for an urgent renewal of the ceasefire, highlighting the impact of Israel’s recent offensive.

“More than 1,000 children have been killed or wounded in just one week since the truce was broken,” the UN officials said in a statement.

The Gaza Health Ministry reported that at least 50,695 Palestinians have been confirmed dead, and 115,338 injured since Israel began its military operations following the 7 October 2023 attacks.

The Government Media Office in Gaza put the death toll even higher, stating that more than 61,700 have died, with thousands still trapped under the rubble and presumed dead.

The October 7 attacks by Hamas and affiliated groups left 1,139 people dead in Israel, with more than 200 taken captive, sparking the months-long conflict that has since escalated into one of the region’s most devastating humanitarian crises.
