In his own rendition of a thrilling escape mission inside the borders of Iran, Donald Trump has described the successful retrieval of an F-15E Strike Eagle pilot who was left behind following his crash landing into enemy territory for more than twenty-four hours. The mission almost faltered in its beginning stages due to doubts that the WSO had been captured by the Iranians and was now being used as a lure.

Suspicion arose from a brief, three-word radio transmission sent from the rugged mountainous terrain where the officer was hiding. The message, initially reported as "Power be to God" but later clarified as "God is good," caused a stir among US officials. Trump noted that the phrasing initially sounded like something a local insurgent or Iranian soldier might say, sparking concerns that Tehran’s forces had seized the officer’s radio to lure American rescue teams into an ambush. It was only after colleagues confirmed the WSO was deeply religious that the military accepted the message as a genuine signal of survival.

The officer’s ordeal involved evading thousands of Iranian troops and local civilians who were scouring the area, allegedly spurred on by government-offered rewards. While the F-15E pilot had been recovered earlier in a "bold and quick snatch" under heavy fire during daylight, the WSO was forced to hole up in a mountain crevice. His methods were very harsh and focused only on survival, using his signal sparingly and utilising an encrypted device that allowed him to communicate with American spies without revealing his exact location.

In order to give the rescue party enough time, it is said that the CIA set up a complex deception operation, where the information about the airman’s capture and movement by land was circulated among local sources. This ruse successfully diverted Iranian search parties, allowing a massive task force of roughly 200 special operations troops to establish a temporary covert base inside Iran under the cover of darkness.

The final extraction was a complex, multi-national effort. While US surveillance technology provided the primary tracking data, Israel played a supporting role. Though US officials clarified that Israeli intelligence did not pinpoint the officer's exact location, the Israeli Air Force reportedly launched a targeted strike to intercept Iranian reinforcements moving toward the extraction zone. Trump praised the "strong partnership" with Israel during the crisis, which concluded when he authorised the final push to bring the officer home. The mission was later confirmed a success in a post on Truth Social, marking the end of one of the most audacious behind-the-lines recoveries in recent history.
