Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, the US military reported intercepting over 80 drones and six ballistic missiles launched toward Israel from Iran and Yemen.

 

The operation, carried out by US Central Command (CENTCOM) in conjunction with US European Command destroyers on April 13 and 14, underscores the ongoing volatile situation.

 

CENTCOM confirmed these interceptions via a statement on the social media platform X, emphasising their commitment to Israel's security and regional stability.

 

This military action highlights Iran's aggressive stance and its potential repercussions on regional safety, with CENTCOM criticising Iran's actions as "malign and reckless."

 

The attacks targeted Israel following a contentious period marked by Iran's retaliation to an alleged Israeli assault on its consulate in Syria. Although over 300 drones and missiles were reportedly involved in this larger assault, many were neutralised by Israel’s Iron Dome missile defence system and collaborative US efforts.

 

US President Joe Biden lauded the effectiveness of US forces and their pivotal role in this defence operation, emphasising the unwavering US support for Israel while also cautioning against further escalation in retaliatory measures by the Israeli government.
