The political situation in Bangladesh has become increasingly volatile following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Amid the turmoil, AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President and joint-secretary general of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has called on India to arrest and extradite Sheikh Hasina and her sister, Sheikh Rehana, back to Bangladesh.

Khokon accused Hasina of being responsible for numerous deaths in the country and called for her return to face accountability.

During a press conference at the SCBA auditorium, Khokon emphasized the desire for positive relations with India but insisted on the return of Hasina and Rehana. He also urged against declaring a state of emergency and demanded the resignation of Supreme Court judges involved in political activities and corruption.

Furthermore, he called for the resignation of state law officers, including Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, and officials from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), who were appointed by Hasina’s government. Khokon also demanded the release of political prisoners.

Bangladesh has been experiencing escalating protests, primarily led by students opposing a quota system for government jobs, which have evolved into broader anti-government demonstrations. In response to the mounting unrest, President Mohammed Shahabuddin announced the dissolution of the parliament to facilitate the formation of an interim administration.

In a significant development, BNP chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was released from detention. Meanwhile, Hasina has arrived in India, though it remains uncertain whether she will stay in Delhi or relocate to another location.

Amidst the political chaos, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have proposed an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus to address Bangladesh’s ongoing challenges.
