Assam has extended a warm welcome to Bhutanese students seeking medical degrees, allocating an additional three MBBS seats in its medical colleges.
This brings the total number of seats reserved for Bhutan to five.
The news, announced by the Indian embassy in Thimphu, was confirmed by the Assam Chief Minister's Office (CMO).
The move is seen as a way to further strengthen the long-standing ties between India and Bhutan.
"This is another step towards furthering the age-old relationship between the two countries," the CMO said in a statement.
The decision comes on the heels of the recent visit by the King of Bhutan to India, highlighting the commitment to educational collaboration.
Bhutanese students will now have a greater opportunity to pursue MBBS qualifications in Assam's medical institutions.
