At least three people were killed and another wounded on Thursday in a shooting incident in Australia’s New South Wales state, police said.
Emergency services were called to an address at Lake Cargelligo, a small town of around 1,500 people, following reports of a shooting, a police statement said.
The three people killed included two women and a man, while another man was taken to the hospital in a serious but stable condition, police authorities said, adding that the suspects appeared to be at large.
Police used geo-targeted text messages to urge the public to avoid the area and for local residents to stay inside and in contact.

A local resident named Manisha, who did not want to give her family name, told a newspaper there were police cars and ambulances “all over town”.
“The town is made of just two main streets. We can hear the sounds of sirens,” she told.
The shooting is an unfortunate repeat of the horrific Bondi Beach shooting tragedy on December 14 that left 15 people dead. It comes on a National Day of Mourning as the country remembers the deceased who had been killed in Sydney at a Hanukkah celebration.
The two alleged Sydney gunmen, a father-son duo of Indian origin, were allegedly inspired by the Islamic State group to carry out Australia’s worst mass shooting since 1996, police said.
