The International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh issued second arrest warrants against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 11 others, including senior army officials and a former police chief, for their alleged involvement in forced disappearances.

The Inspector General (IG) of police has been directed to arrest all 12 accused, including Hasina, and present them before the tribunal on February 12.

The case includes accusations against Hasina’s former defence advisor Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, currently in custody, and former IG of police Benazir Ahmed, who is at large.

Last month, the Bangladesh government formally sought Hasina’s extradition from India by sending a note verbal through its Department of Foreign Affairs. The Union government acknowledged the request but refrained from commenting further.

The ICT issued its first warrant against Hasina on October 17 last year for “genocide and crime against humanity”.

Following Hasina-ld Awami League’s fall in August last year, over 60 cases of dissappearances, killings, and crime against humanity have been filed, implicating the former Prime Minister, her party leaders and law enforcement officials during her regime.
