Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who resigned on Monday following unprecedented anti-government protests, is en route to London via India, according to multiple diplomatic sources.
Hasina is reportedly traveling on a Bangladesh Air Force transport aircraft, which is expected to have a stopover in India.
It remains unclear whether the military aircraft will continue directly to London or if Hasina will switch planes for the final leg of her journey.
The Indian government has agreed to provide safe passage through its airspace for Hasina's aircraft following a request from Dhaka, sources informed.
As the political landscape in Bangladesh shifts rapidly, Indian officials are closely monitoring developments in Dhaka. However, there has been no official reaction from New Delhi regarding the situation unfolding in Bangladesh.
In Dhaka, Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman confirmed Hasina's resignation and announced the establishment of an interim government. "I'm taking all responsibility for the country. Please cooperate," he stated in a televised address.
The Army chief further indicated that he had met with political leaders and assured them of the Army's commitment to maintaining law and order.
The protests against Hasina's government have escalated over the past two days, resulting in more than 100 fatalities.
Initially sparked by a controversial job quota scheme, the demonstrations have evolved into a widespread anti-government movement.
