Students in Bangladesh launched their website, chinerakhun.com, dedicated to documenting police brutality and violence against protesters.

As reports surface of senior Bangladeshi Awami League officials, including ministers, MPs, judges, and their spouses fleeing the country, agitating students have taken a stand by launching a website that identifies police and Chhatra League members implicated in the killings of protesters.

The site, chinerakhun.com, serves as a living document detailing the identities of those involved in violent crackdowns on demonstrators from July 17 to 21.

Notably, the website lists former Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) chief Lt Gen Akbar Hossain and two other unidentified individuals among a group of VIPs who are either currently leaving or are set to depart Bangladesh imminently.

The list, held by Northeast News, includes the spouse of Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmood and other Awami League ministers, totalling around 25 escapees.

While the destinations of these individuals remain unknown, sources suggest they may utilize a single flight out of the unrest-stricken nation.

The newly launched website provides specific information about those allegedly responsible for violence against students.

It names Lt Col Redowanul Islam, an army officer who reportedly shot at protesters under the Rampura overbridge on July 27, 2024, and displays his details alongside photographs of two police officers and two sub-inspectors involved in the incidents.

One of those highlighted is Apurbo Hasan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pallabi police station in Dhaka, who was captured on video stating, “We have killed. But what to do now.”

This statement, which has stirred significant outrage, accompanies his photograph and brief biography on the website.

Another police official, Mohammad Arshad Hossain Akash, the OC of Shahbag police station, has also been named for his alleged brutality against a student. A Sub-Inspector identified as Yunus Ali is accused of fatally shooting Abu Sayed during the protests on July 16.

The website aims to maintain an ongoing record of individual incidents of police violence, Chhatra League actions, and other abuses perpetrated by military and paramilitary personnel throughout the tumultuous protests.

Mehedi Hasan Kawsar Sajeeb, a former senior vice president of the 1st Ward Chhatra League in Uttara, Dhaka, is also mentioned for allegedly attacking female protesters on August 2.

The website creators encourage the public to contribute evidence of abuses, making it a platform for collective memory and accountability in the wake of the protests.

The details gathered on the site are expected to serve as crucial evidence in the event of a nationwide investigation into the actions of police, paramilitary forces, and the Chhatra League, should stability return to Bangladesh.

As the situation unfolds, several high-profile individuals are anticipated to leave Dhaka. These include Justice Mohiuddin Shamim, ministers Mohammad Abdus Shahid, Mohammad Tajul Islam, Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali, Obaidul Moktadir, and former Finance Minister Moustafa Kamal, known as 'Lotus.'

The lists also feature serving MPs such as Anwar Hossain Manju and ex-parliamentarian Mohammad Habib Hasan.

Among the industrialists fleeing are Nazrul Islam Mazumdar, Director of the FBCCI, alongside two managing directors, Washim Rahman and Imranur Rahman, as well as Mohammad Jashim Uddin, President of SAARC CCI, and Suraiyya Begum, a senior secretary and commissioner.
