Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met with President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on Wednesday, culminating in the signing of 21 agreements and MoUs aimed at bolstering their strategic partnership.

The meetings marked a transition from a "strategic partnership" to a "comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership," as reported by Bangladesh's state-run news agency BSS.

President Xi Jinping pledged economic assistance to Bangladesh through grants, interest-free loans, concessional loans, and commercial loans during his talks with Hasina.

State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak shared a photo of the leaders' meeting on social media, citing the significance of the discussions held at the Great Hall of the People.

Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud described the discussions between Hasina and Xi as highly successful and conducted in a cordial atmosphere.

Following delegation-level talks, Prime Minister Hasina and Premier Li oversaw the signing of agreements covering economic cooperation, banking, trade, investment, digital economy, infrastructure development, disaster management assistance, and the construction of key Bangladesh-China friendship bridges.

Earlier, Hasina received a ceremonial welcome upon her arrival, underscored by a red carpet reception and greetings from Premier Li.

Key topics during the bilateral talks included the Rohingya issue, trade and commerce, investments, and broader regional and international affairs.

The agreements also encompassed cooperation in agricultural exports from Bangladesh and initiatives to enhance people-to-people connectivity, according to BSS.
