Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to depart for New Delhi on Friday to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi for his third consecutive term as India's prime minister, her aide confirmed on Thursday.
Hasina, following a phone conversation with Modi on Wednesday, accepted his invitation to attend the ceremony, making her one of the early confirmations among foreign dignitaries.
According to reports, Prime Minister Hasina is scheduled to leave Dhaka at 4 pm tomorrow to join the event, as stated by her speech writer M Nazrul Islam to the state-run BSS.
Hasina's prompt acceptance of Modi's invitation reflects the strong ties and personal rapport shared between the two leaders.
In January, Modi had extended his congratulations to Hasina for securing a record fourth consecutive term in office, emphasising their commitment to strengthen bilateral relations.
Both leaders aim to deepen historic ties under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Smart Bangladesh 2041, focusing on economic partnerships, energy security, connectivity, digital linkages, and people-to-people contacts.
Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a historic victory in the Lok Sabha polls, paving the way for his third term as prime minister.
Top leaders from Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, and Mauritius are also expected to attend Modi's oath-taking ceremony, reflecting the regional importance of the event.
