US President Joe Biden recently praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his historic visits to Poland and Ukraine, recognizing his strong message of peace. This commendation came during a telephone conversation between the two leaders, as reported by the White House.
During their discussion, President Biden highlighted the significance of PM Modi’s trips, noting that they were the first by an Indian Prime Minister to these European nations in decades. The visits were seen as a gesture of support for Ukraine amidst ongoing conflict, with Modi emphasising the need for dialogue and diplomacy.
The conversation also touched on the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings scheduled for September. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict, adhering to international law and the principles of the UN Charter.

Modi reiterated India’s readiness to support efforts for a peaceful resolution and the restoration of stability in the region.
In his discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s dedication to peaceful conflict resolution. He stressed that India has consistently supported peace and is prepared to contribute to the path of progress.
Russia and Ukraine have been engaged in conflict since 2022, and India has maintained a stance favouring diplomacy and peace. Following the conversation, the White House emphasised the importance of including President Zelenskyy’s peace plan in discussions, welcoming contributions from any nation willing to support this approach.
White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby reinforced the US position, welcoming nations that align with Zelenskyy’s vision for a just peace. While details of India’s specific stance were not elaborated, the US expressed openness to collaborative efforts towards resolving the conflict.
PM Modi took to social media to share the details of his call with President Biden, emphasising their comprehensive exchange on regional and global issues, including the situation in Ukraine. He highlighted the progress in the India-US strategic partnership and their joint efforts to benefit both nations and the global community.
