Joe Biden, the President of the United States, has urged for a prohibition on the semi-automatic rifle model that was used in the attempted assassination of his political opponent, Donald Trump, during the election campaign.

During his first public appearance on the campaign trail since the attack last weekend, Biden advocated for the prohibition of the AR-15.

“Join me in getting these weapons of war off the streets of America. An AR-15 was used in the shooting of Donald Trump… It’s time to outlaw them,” Biden told a meeting of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Las Vegas.

While Trump garners strong support at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Biden is in Las Vegas, engaging with Black voters at the NAACP advocacy group.

The 81-year-old president plans to have discussions with Black broadcaster BET, which is the latest of several interviews as he addresses concerns about his mental acuity following his disappointing debate against Trump last month.

Despite urging Americans to "lower the temperature" of politics after the recent attempt on Trump's life, Biden had to cancel a campaign trip to Texas yesterday but proceeded with his visit to Nevada.

Nevada narrowly voted for Biden in the 2020 election, securing his victory over Trump.
