Reports are that Brazil has halted the negotiation talks for purchasing the Akash air defence system from India. Brazil's government instead is rather focusing on purchasing an Enhanced Modular Air Defence Solutions (EMADS) system from Italy, the media reports suggest.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, attending the BRICS 2025 summit. During the time, PM Modi and Brazil President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also held discussions and agreed to expand the bilateral ties in defence, security cooperation, and other sectors.

It is to be noted that PM Modi received Brazil’s highest civilian honor – The Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross.

Post meeting the Brazilian president, the Indian PM stated, "Growing cooperation between India and Brazil in the defence sector is a symbol of deep mutual trust between the two nations. Being two big democracies, our cooperation is relevant not just for the Global South, but the whole of humanity. When the world is reeling under times of stress and uncertainty, India and Brazil's partnership is an important pillar of stability and balance."
