The UK has sacked Lord Peter Mandelson as its ambassador to the United States after an examination of the emails allegedly pointing to his relationship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, said the UK's Foreign Office.
In the emails, which were widely circulated in the British media, Mandelson had voiced his strong support for Epstein after the sex trafficker was indicted by a grand jury, assuring him that his “friends stay with you and love you.” The emails sent by Mandelson signify the extent of support the late sex offender had from the British diplomatic circles.
The release of the private emails by the British media dealt a final blow to Mandelson, who had already been struggling to justify his presence at one of Epstein’s birthday parties. These revelations have rocked British politics recently, as Epstein’s long-time associate Ghislaine Maxwell had compiled and stored a 10-page letter from the former British ambassador.
These ambiguous letters, interspersed with photographs, describe Epstein as Mandelson’s “best pal” and portray him as an “intelligent, sharp-witted”, and “mysterious” man. One of the sections from the email reads, “You would spend many hours just waiting for him to turn up… And often, no sooner were you used to having him around than you would suddenly be alone again… Leaving you with some ‘interesting’ friends to entertain instead.”

Following the surfacing of the alleged “love letter”, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer strongly backed the ambassador, saying the diplomat had played a key role in strengthening the UK-US ties in recent months.”
While the diplomat expressed his regret over meeting Epstein, saying he had some ties with Jeffrey Epstein “for far longer than I should have done”, and painted himself as a victim of a “charismatic criminal liar”. The downfall of the Mandelson comes at a time when US President Donald Trump is set to visit the UK after an invitation from the British Royal Family.
