A mass shooting in central Chicago has reportedly left at least 4 people dead, 16 others have been reported injured after gunfire erupted outside a nightclub early Thursday, according to multiple local media outlets citing police sources.
The incident occurred just after midnight near the intersection of Franklin Street and Chicago Avenue, outside the Artis Lounge nightclub, where an album release party for local rapper Mello Buckzz had just concluded. The Chicago Police Department has not yet confirmed the total number of victims, and investigations remain ongoing.
A spokesperson for Northwestern Medicine, Chris King, told the Associated Press that the hospital’s emergency department was evaluating several people injured in the shooting. However, no specific details were given regarding the number of individuals treated or their conditions.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the number of casualties or the motive behind the attack. Police said further information would be provided once the situation becomes clearer.
Videos circulating on social media, including one widely viewed clip posted on the platform X (formerly Twitter), captured the sound of more than a dozen gunshots ringing out in the distance as a vehicle moved through nearby traffic. The occupants of the car can be heard reacting in shock.
Other videos posted online show a large police and emergency response presence at the scene. One post featured what appeared to be a digital alert from the Chicago Fire Department labelling the situation a “Mass Casualty Incident.”
The alert reported that at least 12 people had been shot, with emergency services responding in large numbers to the scene just after 12:37 a.m. local time.
While early reports indicated four fatalities, most news outlets — including local news — cited police sources stating three people had died. The discrepancy has not yet been clarified by officials.
