China’s Defence Ministry announced that both the Chinese and Indian militaries are "comprehensively and effectively" implementing the agreement aimed at resolving the Ladakh standoff, with "steady progress" reported.
Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, a Defence Ministry spokesperson, shared this update during a media briefing in Beijing, responding to questions regarding the recent Special Representatives talks held on December 18.
"At present, the Chinese and Indian militaries are comprehensively and effectively implementing the border-related solutions reached between the two sides, and steady progress has been made," Col Zhang said.
He highlighted that, in line with consensus reached by the leaders of both nations, China and India have maintained regular communication on the border issue through diplomatic and military channels.
The October 21 agreement between the two countries followed a meeting between National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, which discussed the implementation of the agreement and the restoration of relations frozen since the standoff began in April 2020.
The agreement was approved during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
Col Zhang further emphasised that restoring Sino-Indian relations serves the core interests of both nations and their people.
"The Chinese military is ready to collaborate closely with the Indian side to faithfully implement the important consensus of the two leaders, enhance exchanges, and promote military-to-military relations between the two countries, contributing to lasting peace and tranquillity in the border areas," he concluded.
