US President Donald Trump has said that the clock is ticking for Iran to reach a deal, warning that the United States has plenty of time to decide its next course of action if talks fail. Trump stated that he feels no pressure in dealing with Iran, while the Iranian side is under increasing pressure to come up with a better and more suitable agreement to end the ongoing hostilities.
He has ordered the deployment of a third aircraft carrier to the Middle East — the USS George H.W. Bush — which has now joined the USS Gerald R. Ford and the USS Abraham Lincoln in a major build-up of naval firepower.
The United States has also announced a $10 million reward for information leading to the arrest of the leader of an Iran-aligned terrorist group in Iraq.
Hashim Finyan Rahim al-Saraji is the leader and secretary-general of Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS), a group with close ties to Iran.
According to the US Department of State’s Rewards for Justice Programme, the group is responsible for killing civilians in Iraq and attacking US diplomatic facilities and personnel in Iraq and Syria.
Those providing actionable information could be eligible for relocation and a substantial reward.
US forces in the region remain locked and loaded, with even more weaponry now deployed than at the time of the ceasefire.
The State Department added that President Trump is willing to make a deal but will not wait indefinitely for negotiations to begin.
