According to the United Nations' latest  estimates, there are 50,000 pregnant women in the Gaza Strip, with 4,000 Palestinian babies expected to be delivered this month amid a shortage of medical and essential supplies.

Estimates suggest that approximately 15,000 babies are likely on the verge of famine, the UN Population Fund said highlighting the toll that Gazans are taking every day.

Around 1.9 million people, or 90 per cent of the population of the besieged territory, remain forcibly displaced with little to no access to basic human needs, including some of the critical resources necessary for the survival of human life like food and clean water.

Additionally, around 415,000 are forced to live in the UN schools turned shelters, dozens of which have been hit by the Israeli military during the operations against Hamas.

The death toll as per the Gaza Health Ministry, which the UN considers credible, says that at least 44,330 people have been killed in more than 13 months of fighting between Israel and Hamas.

The toll includes 48 deaths in the previous 24 hours, which said around 104,933 people have been wounded in the Gaza Strip since the fighting broke out on October 7, 2023.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Israel blocked all attempts to deliver humanitarian aid to north Gaza, UNRWA told reporters.

“The conditions for survival are diminishing for the 65,000–75,000 people estimated to remain there,” the UN agency said. “For over 50 days, they have been facing diminishing conditions for survival.”

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that conditions for reaching a ceasefire and hostage deal in the Gaza Strip have considerably improved, reports said.

He made these comments during an interview with a local channel, where he was quoted as saying, “I think the conditions have very much changed for the better.”

At the same time, the international community, including the UN representative, urged states to uphold the ICC’s arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu after France said that “Netanyahu was immune to the warrant as Israel was not a signatory or member of the international criminal court.”

Furthermore, the United States has also hinted that the peace deal between Israel and Hamas was moving in a positive direction following the ceasefire in Lebanon.
