As many as 27 terrorists were killed during overnight anti-terror operations in Balochistan and Bannu district, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday. Since July 5, when terrorists attacked and killed police personnel, paramilitary men, and civilians, the Pakistan army launched an operation called 'Shaban' to hunt down the Baloch Liberation Army and their assets in the northern Balochistan province.
The cumulative death toll from the ongoing anti-terror operations has now climbed to 196, including 154 terrorists, four civilians, 27 police personnel, and 11 security personnel since July 5.
The operation, code-named "Shaban", was launched to flush out the remaining assets and terrorist entities, particularly the Baloch Liberation Army and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, from the mountainous regions in a coordinated effort, officials said.
Interior Minister Ishaq Dar said that "anti-terror operations, which include the military, paramilitary rangers, and the FC corps, along with teams from the Special Services Group (SSG), will continue until the mission objectives are achieved."
The strikes are being carried out via aerial bombings, drones, helicopters, and F-16 fighter jets in the northern region of the country. A large cache of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the killed militants, including M4 rifles, submachine guns, rocket launchers, mobile phones, and other equipment, security sources confirmed on Friday.
The deadliest attack on July 5 targeted a police checkpoint at Mangi Dam in Ziarat District, where militants killed nine policemen before abducting 18 others.
