External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday to discuss strengthening bilateral relations.

The Consulate General of India in Dubai, in a post on X, stated that Jaishankar’s visit is focused on advancing ties and expanding cooperation between the two nations.

“External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in the UAE for an official visit. Looking forward to further strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation between our nations,” the Consulate General of India posted on X.

India and the UAE established diplomatic ties in 1972, with embassies opening in both nations in 1972 and 1973. The countries share strong relations, bolstered by membership in several international groups, including the United Nations, BRICS, I2U2 (India-Israel-UAE-USA), and the UAE-France-India (UFI) Trilateral.

Recently, the UAE was invited to participate as a guest country in the G20 Summit under India’s presidency.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, relations between India and the UAE have deepened. Modi’s landmark 2015 visit—the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 34 years—launched a new strategic partnership.

He has since visited the UAE multiple times, including last year for COP28 in Dubai. In 2022, the nations signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), further enhancing trade and investment relations.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has also made several visits to India, including one in September 2023 to attend the G20 Leaders' Summit, followed by another in November 2023 for the Global South Summit.

In January 2024, he attended the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit as the Chief Guest.

In June, Jaishankar met with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, underscoring the commitment of both nations to strengthen ties.
