Eric Garcetti, the outgoing US Ambassador to India, has bid an emotional farewell as he concludes his tenure as the 26th envoy to the country. Reflecting on his time in India, he shared a message celebrating the deep bonds forged between the two nations during his tenure.
In a heartfelt video posted on social media, Garcetti expressed his profound connection with India, a country he first experienced as a child and later as a student.
He spoke of the warmth and hospitality he received, along with the rich cultural and personal experiences he encountered throughout his tenure. Summing up his sentiments, he shared, “My dear India: you’re not just incredible–you’re unforgettable. With love, Eric.”
From the moment he arrived in New Delhi, Garcetti felt an immediate connection to the country. He acknowledged the friendships and energy of life he encountered in India, describing it as a place that felt like home.
He travelled extensively across the country, visiting 28 states and immersing himself in India’s diverse culture and heritage.
During his time in India, Garcetti experienced a variety of memorable moments. He recalled floating past the Ghats of Varanasi, crossing the living root bridges in Meghalaya, and sailing through the tranquil backwaters of Kerala.
He also highlighted cheering for the Indian cricket team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, exploring Hyderabad’s unique blend of history and modernity, and celebrating the cultural richness of Kolkata and Chennai.
Garcetti expressed pride in the achievements of the India-US partnership during his time in office. From collaboration on vaccine distribution and technological advancements to the opening of the fifth US mission in Bengaluru, he noted the progress made together.
He praised the mutual efforts of scientists, businesses, and students from both nations, reflecting on how the partnership has strengthened over the years.
