Ex-Nepal PM's wife succumbs to burn injuries after home torched

The  violent and highly volatile protests in Nepal today witnessed a gruesome face, when wife of former Nepal Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal succumbed to her injuries, hours after anti-government protesters set their house on fire in Kathmandu. She died after sustaining critical injuries in her home in Dallu .

Ex-Nepal PM's wife succumbs to injuries after their house was set on fire by protesters


The  violent and highly volatile protests in Nepal today witnessed a gruesome face, when wife of former Nepal Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal succumbed to her injuries, hours after anti-government protesters set their house on fire in Kathmandu. She died after sustaining critical injuries in her home in Dallu .

 

The reports said  Jhalanath Khanal’s wife, Ravilaxmi, was burnt alive on Tuesday after anti-government protesters set her house ablaze in Kathmandu as the violent protests turned even lethal after KP Sharma Oli's resignation as the Prime Minister, along with several of his ministers.As per the reports, Ravilakshmi Chitrakar was inside the house, located in the capital's Dallu area, when protesters set it ablaze. She suffered severe burns and was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed.

 

The incident marks another grave chapter in the Gen-Z or anti-corruption protests after agitators stormed key establishments such as the Parliament,  According to family members, a group of demonstrators allegedly forced her inside the residence before igniting the blaze. She was rushed to Kirtipur Burn Hospital in critical condition but could not survive her injuries.

 

According to local media, Khanal's wife was rushed to the hospital with severe burn injuries on multiple parts of her body.
The attack comes as violent Gen-Z-led protests continued in Nepal for the second day despite the government announcing that it had lifted the ban on social media platforms. Demonstrators demanded Oli's ouster and the government's dismissal after two more people were killed on the second day of the demonstrations, pushing the death toll to 22 and leaving over 300 injured.

 

Earlier, hundreds of protesters, mostly youth, surrounded the house of the former Nepal PM and set it on fire.Nepal is witnessing angry demonstrations due to the government's ban on social media and alleged corruption. Earlier, KP Oli resigned as the prime minister of Nepal while Ram Chandra Poudel quit as the President in the face of the demonstration.Protesters targeted the houses of several top Nepal politicians, setting many afire, as anger gripped the nation over severe wealth disparity in the Himalayan country.
