Five persons, including a firefighter, were injured after a powerful explosion ripped through a church in upstate New York on Tuesday, according to local media reports quoting authorities. Two of the injured are said to be in critical condition, and the building has been largely destroyed.

 

Emergency teams were called to the Abundant Life Fellowship Church in Boonville after reports of a strong gas smell inside the premises. Witnesses told investigating team that they had noticed the odour before the blast. The explosion happened while emergency responders were already present at the site.
