The battle for Pokrovsk has intensified between Russian and Ukrainian forces after Moscow ordered the latest push across the entire battlefield.
According to sources, Ukrainian defence lines are crumbling at certain places, especially in Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. The city is strategically important and has been on Russia’s radar since 2022.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its troops were destroying Ukrainian positions in the industrial area of the city. Besides, Russian forces have also reportedly entered the Prigorodny area of the city.
However, Ukrainian forces on Monday contested Russian claims, saying their forces did not have full control over the city.
“The Russians continue to attack in small formations of up to five soldiers, without using their armoured vehicles,” said the commander in charge of Ukraine's eastern front.

Ukraine's 7th Rapid Response Corps, meanwhile, said that its "operation of clearing Pokrovsk of occupiers" was ongoing, adding that Ukrainian forces had thwarted an attempt to cut off the supply route from Rodynske in the north.
On Saturday, Ukraine announced the deployment of Special Forces to the eastern city of Pokrovsk, which is under assault by thousands of Russian troops.
Russian forces had also claimed to have surrounded some 10,000 Ukrainian infantrymen in the Kupiansk region with the deployment of more than 170,000 troops.
Meanwhile, Pokrovsk remains an important logistics hub that had a population of roughly 60,000 before the start of the war.
Moscow intends to capture the entire Donetsk region, which it claims to have annexed. Russia now controls 81 per cent of the region.
