At least six people were killed and two others injured after a gunman opened fire at a gathering of tribal elders in northwest Pakistan, police said on Wednesday.
The attack occurred in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where elders from the Istrana tribe had gone to meet a wanted suspect, Zulfiqar Marwat, in an attempt to settle a dispute over a stolen motorcycle, according to the police.

During the meeting, the suspect suddenly opened fire on the jirga members, leaving six dead at the scene and two others wounded, officials said.
Marwat fled the area on a motorcycle, prompting police to launch a search operation to apprehend him.
Acting on intelligence about his whereabouts, police later carried out a raid, during which Marwat and his accomplices opened fire on the officers.
He was subsequently killed in an exchange of fire with police, who also recovered weapons and a motorcycle from the location.
