Former US presidents praise Trump for Gaza peace deal

United States President Donald Trump has received rare recognition from former presidents Bill Clinton and Joe Biden for his role in the Gaza ceasefire deal that took place in Egypt on Monday.


Clinton, in a statement on Monday, said, “I’m grateful that a ceasefire has taken hold, that the last 20 living hostages have been freed, and that desperately needed aid has begun to flow into Gaza.” 


He said, “President Trump and his administration, Qatar, and other regional actors deserve great credit for keeping everyone engaged until the agreement was reached.” He urged both Hamas and Israel to “turn this fragile moment into lasting peace that gives dignity and security to both Israelis and Palestinians.”


Meanwhile, Trump’s predecessor, Democrat leader Joe Biden, thanked Trump for assisting in bringing the hostages back from Gaza.


In a post on X, Biden Wrote, “I commend President Trump and his team for their work to get a renewed ceasefire deal over the finish line.”

“Expressing hope that the peace would last, he called for 'equal measures of peace, dignity, and safety' for Israelis and Palestinians.


Trump, along with mediators Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye, signed the ceasefire agreement on Monday in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt. As per the terms of the agreement, Israel pulled back its troops from parts of the Gaza Strip while Hamas released the 20 remaining hostages in exchange for the release of around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.


During the signing ceremony, Trump said that “everybody’s happy” with the agreement, which “has taken off like a rocket ship.”
