Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 35 people in Gaza over the past 24 hours, with fresh airstrikes continuing across the southern region. According to the United Nations, approximately 500,000 people have been newly displaced in Gaza since peace talks between Hamas and Israel collapsed without resolution on March 18.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz reiterated that Israel's “policy is clear,” stating that preventing humanitarian aid from entering Gaza serves as a “tool” to pressure Hamas.

Tensions have risen as Israeli negotiators recently demanded the disarmament of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, a condition that Hamas officials have rejected as “unacceptable,” accusing Israel of using it to undermine peace efforts.

During Prime Minister Netanyahu’s recent trip to the United States, the Trump administration voiced its intention to increase pressure on both Israel and Hamas to agree to a ceasefire. The statement swiftly impacted Israeli political dynamics, with Netanyahu, backed by far-right pro-war factions, signalling his intention to ease demands ahead of the next round of peace talks in Doha.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that over 51,025 Palestinians have been confirmed dead, with 116,432 wounded since the beginning of the conflict 18 months ago. The Gaza Government Media Office has revised the death toll to more than 61,700, including thousands still missing under the rubble.

In Israel, at least 1,139 people were killed during the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, with over 200 taken captive.
