Israeli forces have killed several Palestinians in attacks across Gaza despite a US-brokered ceasefire now in place, with the Gaza Health Ministry putting the number of those killed in the war at 69,000 on Sunday.
The latest killings came as Hamas on Saturday rejected disarmament and deployment of an international peacekeeping force in Gaza. The Health Ministry also said that Israeli forces have killed more than 240 Palestinians since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10.
The number of those killed by Israeli forces since October 7, 2023, had risen to 69,169, after more of the dead were identified and more bodies were recovered from the rubble. Hamas said it retrieved the remains of Israeli officer Hadar Goldin, who was captured and reported killed during an Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip in 2014.
More than 4,000 Palestinian patients have left Gaza via the Rafah crossing for treatment in Egypt and other countries. Another 16,500 patients are still waiting to get medical care abroad, according to the WHO.
On Saturday, Italian health authorities confirmed that they received tens of patients from Gaza seeking medical care. It is worth noting that the majority of staunch Israeli backers (countries) have recently transitioned to a neutral or pro-Palestinian view in the aftermath of the two-year-long war that saw Israeli forces committing horrific human rights abuses in Gaza.
Meanwhile, dozens of Palestinians suffered from tear gas effects after Israeli forces fired gas canisters at worshippers performing evening prayers at the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Mosque in Salem, a village east of Nablus. The situation in Gaza remains tense but under control. Hamas has not yet responded to the latest Israeli aggression.
