Ten people were shot during an event at a bar in Sanford, Florida, early Sunday morning, leading to the arrest of a 16-year-old suspect. The Seminole County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies, patrolling near Cabana Live, heard gunshots and witnessed the dispersal of the crowd.

Investigators determined that a verbal altercation escalated, resulting in the shooter firing at the crowd, injuring 10 individuals. Fortunately, the victims sustained non-life-threatening wounds, primarily to their lower extremities, and were attended to promptly.

The incident occurred just a day after another shooting incident in Daytona Beach, highlighting growing concerns about public safety in the region. The shooter, apprehended by a security officer at the venue, was promptly booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.

Cabana Live, situated at 4380 Carraway Place in Sanford, is known for its entertainment offerings, including live sports coverage, music, dining, and a pool.

Despite being a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, the shooting at Cabana Live marked the 12th mass shooting in Florida this year, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive (GVA).

While this figure may seem alarming, it is slightly lower than the 13 mass shootings recorded in the state by the same time last year. Nationally, there have been 126 mass shootings as of April 27, compared to 175 during the same period in 2023.

Florida currently leads the nation in mass shootings for 2024, with California, Texas, and Illinois closely following with 10 incidents each. The surge in such incidents underscores the ongoing need for comprehensive efforts to address gun violence and ensure public safety across the country.
