A gunman opened fire from a boat at a restaurant in Southport, North Carolina, on Saturday night, killing at least three people and injuring several others before fleeing the scene, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. (local time) at the American Fish Company, a pub and restaurant on 150 Yacht Basin Drive in the Southport Yacht Basin area, about 20 miles south of Wilmington.
According to police, at least seven people were shot. Three were pronounced dead at the scene, while the others were taken to nearby hospitals.
The conditions of the injured have not yet been released.
City Manager Noah Saldo said a boat pulled up to the restaurant and opened fire into the crowd before speeding away.

He confirmed that several victims had been transported for treatment. Law enforcement officials noted that the figures remain subject to change as the emergency response continues.
The city administration urged residents to avoid the area, stay in their homes, and report any suspicious activity to 911.
Authorities have not released details on the suspect or a possible motive. The investigation is ongoing.
