Hezbollah on Friday claimed that it targeted the Tel Haim military base in Tel Aviv, 120 kilometres from the Lebanon border, reports said.

Hezbollah said it used “qualitative missiles” to target the base, which it said belongs to the military intelligence division of the Israeli army. It did not comment on the potential impact, and the Israeli military has not commented.

As per the latest reports, Hezbollah has fired several rockets towards the Kiryat Shmona settlement and other communities near the border with Lebanon.

The attacks came as a response to an Israeli air strike that targeted the civil defence centre in the vicinity of the city of Baalbek in the Baalbek-Hermel governorate, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said.

It added that the strike was carried out when 20 members were still inside.

Soon after the strike, the Baalbek-Hermel governor, in a post on X, said that 12 bodies had been recovered from the site, but the process of removing the rubble was ongoing.

The IDF said that the launchers posed “an immediate threat” to the Israeli settlements and IDF soldiers operating in southern Lebanon.

The intended targets included a launcher from which the Hezbollah was firing rockets into the Western Galilee and central Israel on Tuesday and Wednesday, they added.

Following the Hamas assault of October 7, 2023, Hezbollah also joined the action and launched rockets and drone strikes into the north of Israel.

More than 68,000 residents of northern Israel are displaced from their homes. Hezbollah leaders have repeatedly said they would continue the attacks to prevent Israelis from returning to their homes.

During the assault, at least 1200 people lost their lives, and around 250 more people were taken hostage by the Hamas resistance group to negotiate a prisoner swap deal.

Meanwhile, there are more than 97 remaining hostages in the Hamas captivity, out of which 30 have been declared dead. However, as per reports, approximately 10,000 Palestinians also remain in the various Israeli prisons.

The deadlock between the Israeli government and Hamas leadership still prevails despite negotiators trying their best to break a peace deal between the two conflicting parties.
