Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah dead, claims Israel

Middle East on the verge of all-out regional war as Israel on Saturday claimed to have killed Hezbollah’s top leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in the airstrike conducted by the Israeli Air Force in Beirut, said IDF in a statement.

According to the latest reports, Nasrallah, along with the commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front, Ali Karaki, was also killed, along with other commanders, the IDF said.

Nasrallah was reportedly targeted on Friday at Hezbollah’s main headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold known as the Dahiyeh.

IDF claimed that the headquarters were located in the underground facility built under the disguise of the residential buildings in Beirut.

“The airstrike was carried out while the top brass of Hezbollah were at their headquarters and engaged in coordinating terror activities against the citizens of the State of Israel,” the Israeli military said.

Furthermore, the stockpile of anti-ship missiles stored by Hezbollah under the buildings was also destroyed in the Israeli strikes overnight.

Hezbollah is reportedly said to have Chinese-made C-704 and C802 missiles, as well as the Iranian Ghader, which have ranges of up to around 200 kilometres and are capable of reaching deep into Israeli territory.

Following the announcement of Nasrallah’s killing, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi said that Israel will reach anyone who threatens the country and its citizens.

Israel on Friday carried out a precision strike against Hezbollah’s central headquarters, located beneath residential buildings in Beirut’s Dahieh.

It is worth mentioning that these strikes were carried out soon after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a threat to Iran and its proxies operating in the region.

He said, “Proxies of Tehran,” there is “no place” in Iran, where the “long arms” of Israel cannot reach, while adding that it is true for the “entire Middle East.”

Despite Israeli claims, the rumours about the deaths of the Hezbollah’s leaders have not yet been confirmed by the group. While Israel remains confident of the killing of Nasrallah.

With this killing, the implications of an all-out regional war seem quite possible, as Israel will now contend with the possible “multi-front” war against Hezbollah, Houthis, Iraqi militias, and Iranian proxies stationed in Syria.

Experts recently suggested that the regional all-out war between Israel and Iranian proxies threatens the peace of the entire Middle East, which is already failing to limit the several ongoing wars.
