Prime Minister Narendra Modi has graciously accepted the invitation extended by Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay for an official visit to Bhutan next week, marking a significant development in the bilateral relations between the two nations.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed this invitation in a press release issued on Friday, following a meeting between PM Modi and PM Tobgay in New Delhi on Thursday.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Tobgay, representing the King of Bhutan, cordially invited PM Modi to visit Bhutan in the forthcoming week, which was graciously acknowledged and accepted by the Indian Prime Minister.

This forthcoming visit underscores the enduring and special relationship shared between India and Bhutan.

PM Tobgay's visit to India holds particular significance as it marks his first official overseas visit since assuming office in February 2024. Both leaders took stock of the substantial progress achieved in various realms of bilateral cooperation, emphasizing key areas such as infrastructure development, connectivity, energy, hydropower cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and developmental collaboration.

The commitment to fortify the longstanding and unique friendship between India and Bhutan was reaffirmed during their discussions.

Highlighting India's pivotal role as a reliable and valued partner in Bhutan's developmental endeavors, PM Tobgay expressed deep appreciation for India's unwavering support.

This sentiment echoes the sentiments expressed during the official visit of the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, to India in November 2023.

During the King's visit, discussions between him and PM Modi spanned a wide range of topics encompassing bilateral cooperation and regional and global issues of mutual interest.

This visit further solidified the exceptional and enduring ties between India and Bhutan, characterized by mutual trust, goodwill, and understanding across diverse sectors.

The forthcoming visit of PM Modi to Bhutan is anticipated to bolster the multifaceted bilateral relationship and foster deeper cooperation across various sectors.

It is expected to provide a platform for both nations to explore new avenues of collaboration and strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation that have long defined their relationship.
