Ministry of External Affairs’ Secretary (East) P. Kumaran on Wednesday expressed India’s strong support for Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship during the East Asia Summit (EAS) Preparatory Senior Officials’ Meeting in Port Dickson, Malaysia, according to the MEA.
In his address, Kumaran reaffirmed India’s commitment to ASEAN’s centrality and unity, describing it as a key pillar of the country’s Act East Policy. He also reiterated India’s backing for the upcoming 20th East Asia Summit and voiced confidence that the summit would further strengthen regional cooperation.
Kumaran extended invitations to EAS participating countries for two major events to be hosted by India.
These include the Knowledge Exchange Workshop on Energy Efficiency Policies and Programmes under the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative, and the Conclave of EAS Heads of Higher Education Institutions, which will be held at Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar.

The Indian government has been advancing collaborations under its Act East Policy, with a particular emphasis on sustainable development and educational partnerships across the region.
According to the MEA, the meeting was chaired by H.E. Dato’ Amran Mohamed Zin, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, in his capacity as ASEAN Chair, and attended by senior officials of EAS participating countries.
During his visit, Secretary (East) also held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Australia, Cambodia and Malaysia.
