India voiced serious concern on Sunday over escalating tensions between Israel and Iran and urged both sides to exercise restraint and return to diplomacy, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs.
In the statement, the ministry expressed alarm at the growing hostilities between the two nations, warning that the situation threatened regional peace and security.
"We are seriously concerned at the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran, which threatens the peace and security in the region," the statement read.
Emphasizing the need for immediate de-escalation, the ministry called for restraint and a return to diplomatic channels.
"We call for immediate de-escalation, exercise of restraint, stepping back from violence and return to the path of diplomacy," the statement continued.
The ministry stated that it was closely monitoring the situation and maintaining communication with the Indian community in the region through its embassies.
“We are closely monitoring the evolving situation. Our Embassies in the region are in close touch with Indian community. It is vital that security and stability are maintained in the region,” MEA said in an X post of its official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
