In the wake of growing tensions in Iran after Israel struck several regions and reports of active nuclear enrichment facility surfaced, Air India issued a travel advisory for flights to or from Indian origins.
Due to the developing situation in Iran and the closure of its airspace, Air India has diverted or returned several flights to ensure passenger safety. Flights affected include key-locations such as Mumbai, London, New York, Sharjah, Delhi, Frankfurt, Chicago, Washington and Toronto.
In a detailed update posted on social media, Air India listed the affected flights and the alternate destinations to which they were rerouted. Several flights from Delhi, Toronto and other international locations were either rerouted or forced to return, majorly disrupting operations across multiple routes.
The flights have either been diverted or being instructed to return to their origin destination keeping passenger safety in mind. Air India ensured that “Refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling is also being offered to guests who opt for it. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly passengers to their destinations.”
Air India issued a travel advisory on Friday morning, announcing the diversion and return of 16 of its international flights in response to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran and the closure of Iranian airspace. The advisory stated that passenger safety remains the airline’s top priority amid this sudden geopolitical crisis.

This comes after a deadly incident in India that took over 260 lives of passengers flying to London via an Air India flight. It crashed in a college hostel in Ahmedabad.The Directorate General of Civil Aviation in India has also advised all airlines to re-route their flights and avoid the airspace over Iran and surrounding middle-east areas in view of the safety of cabin crew and all passengers.
