After securing a historic mandate in the US presidential elections, President-elect Donald Trump is all set to return to the White House for a second term, defeating his rival Democratic candidate Kamala Harris on Wednesday.

Following his chest-thumping victory, Trump will initiate the process of electing a cabinet and also the selection of other high-ranking administrative officials in the coming weeks.

Some of the contenders likely to be sworn in are staunch Trump supporters like Jamie Dimon and Scott Bessent Susie Wiles, John Paulson and Kash Patel, among other potential candidates.

Indian-origin Trump supporter Kash Patel’s name is reportedly being considered as the first choice for the post of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director.

He has served in a range of offices, including holding some key and high-ranking posts, including defence intelligence communities, during the first term of President Donald J. Trump.

While the name of Kash Patel is relatively unheard of in Asian countries, his nomination for the post will have major implications for the South and West Asian regions currently witnessing hostile situations.

Born on February 25, 1980, in New York to Indian immigrant parents from East Africa, Kashyap Pramod Patel, also known as Kash Patel, Patel has roots in Vadodara, Gujarat.

His resume includes serving as the former Chief of Staff to Acting Secretary of Defence Christopher Miller. A law graduate from the University of Richmond along with a certificate in international law from the University College London Faculty of Laws in the United Kingdom.

Initially wanted to join one of the prestigious law firms in America, although, after several failed attempts, he began his career as a public defender in local and federal courts in Miami, handling complex cases including murder, narcotrafficking, and financial crimes.

He worked for nine years as a public defender and later on, joined the Department of Justice as a terrorism prosecutor. He has played key roles in the conviction of several high-ranking criminals associated with Al-Qaeda, ISIS, and other terror groups.

He also served as the Justice Department’s liaison officer to the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), collaborating on global counterterrorism operations.

Additionally, Patel has served as the National Security Advisor and Senior Counsel for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI).

He has been a spearhead of the organisation that investigates Russia’s active measures campaign to influence the 2016 presidential election.

He also served as Principal Deputy to the Acting Director of National Intelligence, where he oversaw the operations of all 17 intelligence community agencies and provided the President’s Daily Briefing.

He has also been a figure of controversy, as in 2016 he authored a four-page document called “Nunes Memo” that highlighted how the US Justice Department had made mistakes while obtaining a warrant to maintain surveillance on Trump campaign volunteers.

Soon after its release, the document received massive backlash from the Justice Department over its several factual errors.

Additionally, he was subjected to animosity by the superior and more experienced intelligence and security officials, who viewed him as volatile and eager to please the then US president Donald Trump.

With him being considered for the role of the world’s top and most influential Intel agencies, the selection could well and truly change US policies towards South and West Asia.

In addition, his selection will also cause some concern in the Chinese, Russian, and Pakistani establishments during his tenure.
