Indian-Americans, energised by the historic candidacy of Kamala Harris, have launched a new website, DesiPresident.com, to rally support for the Democratic hopeful.

The website, which carries the tagline "Kamala Ke Saath" (With Kamala), reflects the community's pride in Harris, whose mother hails from Chennai and father from Jamaica.

The campaign is more than just a website; it’s a movement. The Indian American Impact Fund, which backs Harris, is behind the initiative, aiming to mobilise South Asian voters across the United States.

Their latest offering, a T-shirt emblazoned with "Kamala Ke Saath: Vote Kamala," has become a viral sensation on social media, capturing the enthusiasm surrounding Harris's bid for the presidency.

The initiative also includes a weekly virtual phone bank under the same tagline, where volunteers connect with voters and encourage them to support Harris.

The Indian American Impact Fund presented the first of these T-shirts to Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi during an event this week, symbolizing the growing support within the community.

This is not the first time a Hindi slogan has been used in a U.S. presidential campaign. In 2016, Donald Trump’s campaign adopted the phrase "Ab Ki Baar Trump Sarkaar" (This Time, Trump Government), demonstrating the increasing influence of South Asian voters.

On the other hand, some Hindus in the US have come together to create “Hindus For Kamala Harris”, a support group for the Democratic presidential nominee, saying she would be good for India, America and the world.

The group has been created “to support Kamala Devi Harris to become the 47th President of the United States of America”, its founding members said.

On Thursday, Harris, 59, formally accepted the nomination of the Democratic Party to be its presidential nominee.

“We must help her win. This is the best outcome for America, India and the World! The alternative Trump is a disaster!’ one of the members of the group said.
