An Indian national was killed in an Iranian attack targeting civilian facilities in Kuwait, including the country’s main international airport, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait said on Wednesday.
The casualty occurred after Iranian drones struck Kuwait International Airport, damaging a passenger terminal and disrupting flight operations. The embassy expressed condolences to the bereaved family and said it was coordinating closely with Kuwaiti authorities to provide all necessary assistance. The identity of the deceased was not immediately disclosed.
Kuwaiti authorities confirmed one fatality in the attack, marking the first reported Indian death linked to the latest escalation in the regional conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
According to Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry, Iranian missiles and drones targeted civilian facilities, including the airport and diplomatic missions. While the ministry condemned the attack, it did not specify which diplomatic facilities were affected.
Kuwait’s state news agency reported that the early morning strike caused significant damage to Terminal 1 of Kuwait International Airport, injured several people and temporarily disrupted air traffic operations. Flights were diverted and airport activities suspended while safety assessments were carried out.

National carrier Kuwait Airways later announced the rescheduling of Wednesday’s flights. Civil aviation authorities subsequently restored operations through Terminal 4 after completing inspections and implementing safety measures.
The attack represents a significant escalation for the Gulf nation, which had largely remained insulated from direct hostilities since a ceasefire in the Iran
conflict was announced in April.
Regional tensions have intensified in recent days, with Iran launching missiles and drones towards Kuwait and other Gulf states. Kuwait, a close ally of the United States that hosts American military personnel, has generally avoided becoming a direct target in the conflict.
The US military said two Iranian missiles fired towards Kuwait either fell short or broke apart before reaching their intended targets. It also claimed that several Iranian drones aimed at American forces stationed in Kuwait failed to reach their objectives.
Meanwhile, Bahrain said its air defence systems, working alongside US forces, intercepted missiles and drones directed at the island nation, which hosts the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet.
In response to the attacks, US forces reportedly carried out strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island and intercepted multiple Iranian missiles and drones.
