India joins Asian Parliament session on social affairs.

A three-member delegation of Indian MPs, comprising Rajkumar Chahar, C N Manjunath and V Sivadasan, took part in the meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs held in Moscow on Wednesday.

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Russia said, “An Indian delegation, including Honourable Members of Parliament Shri Rajkumar Chahar and Dr C N Manjunath from the Lok Sabha and Dr V Sivadasan from the Rajya Sabha, participated in the meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs held today in Moscow.”

The meeting brought together parliamentarians from various Asian countries to discuss key social and cultural issues and explore avenues for deeper regional cooperation.

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly was established in 2006 at the Seventh Session of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP), which had been formed in 1999. The APA Charter and the Tehran Declaration outline a vision for enhanced cooperation and integration among Asian nations.

The APA serves as a platform for parliamentarians to exchange views, share experiences, and develop common strategies to promote peace and mutual understanding in Asia and beyond.

It aims to foster cooperation among lawmakers across the continent, encourage respect for human rights and humanitarian values, and strengthen the role of parliaments in achieving social and cultural development.

According to the Assembly, its core objectives include promoting freedom, social justice, peace, security and friendship among Asian countries.

It also focuses on advancing access to modern knowledge and technology, ensuring equitable progress among member states, and encouraging cooperative use of Asia’s human and natural resources while respecting national sovereignty.

The APA further emphasises improving welfare, health and nutrition for populations across the region and advancing the goal of greater Asian integration to harness the continent’s collective potential.

India’s participation in the Moscow meeting reflected its continued commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and regional cooperation in promoting peace, development and social progress across Asia.
