Charanpreet Singh, a 23-year-old Indian student, was brutally assaulted in what is being investigated as a racially motivated attack in central Adelaide. The violent incident took place on the night of July 19 near Kintore Avenue, while Singh and his wife were out enjoying the city’s light displays.
According to eyewitness accounts and video evidence, the couple was suddenly confronted by a group of five men, some allegedly armed with metal knuckles or sharp objects. Without provocation, the men launched a physical assault on Singh, reportedly shouting racial slurs including, “F— off, Indian,” as they attacked him.
Singh was knocked unconscious during the assault and left lying on the road with severe injuries. He suffered multiple facial fractures and brain trauma, according to The Australia Today.
Recounting the horrifying experience to 9News, Singh said, “They just said, ‘F**k off, Indian,’ and after that they just started punching.” His wife, who witnessed the entire attack, followed the assailants as they fled the scene in a car. She managed to film the incident and record the vehicle’s registration number, which she later handed over to authorities. South Australian Police have launched an investigation into the incident. No arrests have been made so far.
