Indian travel advisory: Avoid Iran and Israel, register with embassies

Indian nationals in Iran, Israel are urged to register with embassies and exercise caution amid rising regional tensions.

According to the External Affairs Ministry (MEA) , Indians are strongly advised against traveling to Iran or Israel due to the current security situation in the region. The ministry issued a statement on Friday, urging all Indian nationals in these countries to register themselves with their respective embassies and exercise extreme caution regarding their safety.

The advisory comes amidst heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, with Israel reportedly on high alert for a potential direct attack from Iran within the next 24 to 48 hours, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. While plans for an attack are said to be under discussion by Iranian leadership, no final decision has been made.

The recent escalation stems from Tehran's accusation against Israel of conducting an airstrike on a diplomatic building in Damascus, Syria, resulting in the deaths of several top Iranian military officials, including a senior member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ elite Quds Force.

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has warned Israel of consequences for the Damascus airstrike, vowing punishment for what he described as a mistake by the Israeli regime.

In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz issued a statement on social media platform X in Persian, warning that if Iran attacks from its territory, Israel will retaliate with force.
