Four people, including an Indian woman, were shot dead by her husband during an alleged family dispute in the US state of Georgia early on Friday, while three children were inside the home, police and the Indian mission in Atlanta said.
The incident occurred around 2.30 am (local time) at a residence on Brook Ivy Court in Lawrenceville city, Gwinnett County. Police found four adults inside the house, all of whom had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
The suspect has been identified as Vijay Kumar, 51, of Atlanta. He has been arrested and faces multiple charges, including four counts each of aggravated assault, felony murder and malice murder, along with charges related to cruelty to children.
The victims were identified as Kumar’s wife Meemu Dogra, 43, Gourav Kumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38, according to Gwinnett County police.

The Consulate General of India in Atlanta expressed grief over the incident and said assistance was being provided to the family.
“We are deeply grieved by a tragic shooting incident linked to an alleged family dispute, in which an Indian national was among the victims. The alleged shooter has been arrested, and all possible assistance is being extended to the bereaved family,” the consulate said in a post on X.
Police said three children were present inside the house when the shooting began. The children hid in a closet to protect themselves.
One of the children managed to call 911, providing information that enabled officers to reach the scene within minutes. The children were unharmed and were later taken into the care of a family member.
