Iran has recently expressed strong condemnation of new sanctions imposed by the European Union and Britain. These sanctions target certain Iranian individuals and entities, alleging that Iran has been involved in the transfer of missiles and drones to Russia.
In a statement released by the Foreign Ministry, spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei criticised the sanctions as “unrealistic and baseless.” He described the actions taken by the EU and Britain as unjustified, arguing that they contradict international law principles, especially regarding human rights.
Since the onset of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Iran has maintained a stance advocating for a diplomatic resolution to the tensions. The Iranian government has expressed its opposition to war and conflict, emphasising the need for dialogue to address the differences between the two nations.
Baghaei reiterated this position, highlighting Iran's commitment to peace while also criticising the involvement of some European nations, particularly Britain and Germany, in supplying lethal weapons to Israel.
He pointed out that these weapons have been utilized in what he termed “genocide and aggression” in both Gaza and Lebanon, branding these countries as accomplices in the crimes committed against the Palestinian and Lebanese people.
The Iranian spokesperson underscored Iran's right to engage in military cooperation with other nations, including Russia, to protect its national interests and ensure its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. This declaration signifies Iran's determination to assert its position on the international stage and to defend its strategic partnerships.
Baghaei also highlighted that Iran reserves the right to implement countermeasures in response to the sanctions imposed by the EU, referring to them as “illegal and unjustified.” This statement reflects Iran's commitment to defending its interests and responding to what it perceives as hostile actions against it.
The situation has escalated tensions between Iran and the West, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Iran's involvement, especially regarding its relationship with Russia, has become a focal point in discussions about regional security and international relations. The Iranian government continues to assert its right to maintain military alliances, emphasising that such partnerships are essential for its national security.
