Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched fresh strikes on US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait following US strikes on Iran, officials said on Thursday. Earlier, the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed its retaliatory strikes on Iran, saying they were carried out for "self-defence" as well as in response to Iran’s “unwarranted and continued aggression".
On Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, Iranian media reported loud explosions in several areas, including the port city of Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, and the southern towns of Sirik and Minab.
Air defence systems were also activated in western Tehran.
In response to the US strikes, Iranian authorities have announced the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships. The military command issued a warning that any vessel attempting to transit the critical waterway would face "action".
US President Donald Trump had earlier warned that his military was preparing to strike Iran again, claiming, “They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them; now they will have to pay the price.”
Authorities in Bahrain said air raid sirens were activated across multiple cities on Thursday. The Ministry of Interior urged people to “remain calm and head to the nearest safe place”.
Kuwaiti authorities also reported drone attacks on several facilities. The Kuwaiti army said it was responding to the missile and drone attacks and urged the public to adhere to safety and security instructions.
