Iran has attacked a power and desalination plant in Kuwait, killing one Indian worker and causing significant damage to the facility, Kuwaiti officials said on Monday as the Middle East war continues to widen.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity said in a statement, “A service building at a power and water desalination plant was attacked as part of the Iranian aggression against the State of Kuwait, resulting in the death of an Indian worker and significant material damage to the building.”
Technical and emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the site to manage the aftermath and ensure continued operations.
Iran has not issued any official comment on the attack. However, Iranian state media quoted the Kuwaiti ministry as saying there was extensive damage at the plant.
Kuwait’s Defence Ministry said the country’s forces detected 12 drones and 14 missiles in its airspace targeting a military camp.
It added that at least 10 service personnel were injured in the attack and have since been taken to hospital for treatment.
The regional escalations have intensified since the US and Israeli strikes on Iran began, which have killed more than 2,000 people— including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, several top officials, and as many as 216 children, according to Iranian authorities.
Iranian forces have retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and regional countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure.
Iran has also effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz — through which nearly 20 per cent of global oil and liquefied natural gas passes — a move that has driven up energy prices and rattled financial markets worldwide.
