Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that negotiations on the final deal have yet to begin with the United States.

Iran’s foreign ministry on Tuesday rejected claims made by US President Donald Trump that Tehran had sought a meeting with Washington after recent military exchanges. Donald Trump on Monday claimed that Iran had requested a meeting following last week’s military strikes and added that it will take place in Qatar today.

The Iranian side has clarified that although they did not seek the meeting, they are going to send an expert delegation to Doha to follow up on the release of frozen Iranian funds.

Tehran also rejects France’s de-mining plans for the Strait of Hormuz, warning Paris against provocations in a “sensitive and complex situation". According to the latest reports, US lawmakers have pressed Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff on Iran’s nuclear stockpile and lifting of sanctions on its oil exports.

However, both Rubio and Witkoff reportedly told the lawmakers that their main goal was to negotiate a final deal that would prohibit Iran from keeping enriched uranium.

On the other hand, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that negotiations on the final deal have yet to begin with the United States.

He said, “We have not yet entered the negotiation phase for a final agreement.”

“As per Article 13 of the Iran-US memorandum of understanding, the commencement of negotiations for a final agreement is conditional on the commencement and continuation of the implementation of Articles 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11.”

Article 1 of the MoU explicitly mentions the Lebanese ceasefire remains a key to the peace deal.

While Article 4 calls for the US to remove its naval blockade on Iranian ports and to remove its forces from the “proximity” of Iranian territory.
